The Honorable Berryl A. Anderson was appointed Chief Magistrate Judge of the DeKalb County Magistrate Court on May 27, 2010. On November 6, 2012, she was elected to continue to serve the citizens of DeKalb County in that capacity. As Chief Judge, she manages both the Magistrate Court Civil and Criminal Divisions, Pretrial Services and several Diversion Court Programs. Judge Anderson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Media Arts and Journalism from Hampton University and her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron. Judge Anderson was an Associate Magistrate Judge for 10 years before serving as Chief. She also served as Deputy Chief of Staff for a member of Congress and managed a local Congressional District Office where she focused on constituent services. As an attorney, Judge Anderson worked for Atlanta Legal Aid and represented clients in domestic violence, family law, landlord/tenant, bankruptcy, garnishment, and collection cases. She is actively involved in several civic and professional organizations locally and nationally.
